Team Rector

I have been here in Witney as Team Rector since 2009. I am passionate about mission, hospitality, discipleship and liturgy which enriches and changes lives. I serve as a governor of two of the church schools in the parish and as a trustee on a number of local bodies/charities. More widely I am the Warden of the sisters at Wantage where I helped lead on a multi-million pound renewal project. As Warden I have pastoral care for the Sisters. I am a Trustee of the Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust, a MAT with 40+ schools, serving over 7000 children. I chair on the Estates and Safeguarding committee. I also serve on the national Church’s General Synod, and am leading on a national Asylum Seeker project. This means I am also on Diocesan Synod and I currently serve on the Discipleship and Formation Diocesan Board and the New Communities Board. Since 2019 I have been seconded to the Bishop of Dorchester’s Episcopal Team, serving over 300 churches and over 100 schools and I am currently Acting Assistant Archdeacon. I also have a particular interest in Family Systems Theory, and from 2019 I have been studying Murray Bowen’s work through the Bowen Centre in Washington DC. Previously I served as Area Dean for 6 years. Since coming to Witney I have enjoyed working with Personal Discipleship Plans, Leading Your Church into Growth, Cursillo and the Diocesan Developing Servant Leadership course. I attended a CBT Mindfulness course in Oxford and am committed to the practice of contemplative prayer. I was on the national Learning Community training programme and enjoyed the many opportunities this gave to grow. Previously in Oxford I served on Bishop’s Council; the Board of Mission and as a Diocesan Missioner. Before coming to Witney, I was Parish Priest of Saint John Chrysostom with Saint Andrew in Peckham, South London and Area Dean of Camberwell, also serving on the Southwark Board of Mission; on the national Board of Affirming Catholicism and as Chair of Fresh Expressions Round table 5. Prior to ordination, I read theology at New College, Oxford and worked as a researcher for the Westminster Ethical Policy Forum; as a pastoral assistant at a school on the Peabody Estate in London and then as Administrator to the Headteacher before undertaking priestly formation at The College of the Resurrection, Mirfield. I served my curacy in Petersfield, the northern edge of Portsmouth diocese. I am married to Sally, who is also ordained. We have two children Caspar and Felicity. My hobbies include cooking and reading. Among my other interests are music, the gym, and following the England rugby squad from the sofa. And the odd fire walk!
